Couch grass also marketed as Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon) is a warm-season grass that is widely used for lawns, sports fields, golf courses, and pastures due to its durability, low maintenance requirements, and ability to tolerate heat and drought. It’s native to Africa but has been widely naturalised in many parts of the world.
Couch/Bermuda grass has several characteristics that make it desirable for various applications:

- TifTuf: Known for its exceptional drought tolerance and fine texture, TifTuf is a more recent hybrid that requires less water than some other Bermuda grass types.
- Wintergreen: Couch/Bermuda grass offers better shade tolerance and winter colour while maintaining many of the desirable traits of other Couch/Bermuda grass hybrids.
- Monaco: This hybrid is excellent for use on golf courses, sports turf, and higher quality lawns. It has excellent density and wear tolerance.
- Transcontinantal: With improved cold tolerance for winter survival, Transcontinental allows for quality couch grass performance in both hot, humid and cooler temperate climates of Australia.
It’s important to note that while Couch/Bermuda grass and its hybrids offer numerous benefits, they also have some potential drawbacks. Additionally, this grass tends to go dormant and turn brown during the cooler months in regions with cold winters.
