Description
Prostate cancer remains one of the most prevalent diseases affecting men in Australia. Most of us have been touched by this disease in one form or another, we don’t need to look to far to see the devastation it has had on individuals, families, loved ones and society as a whole.
Prostate cancer is a significant health concern for men. According to statistics, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men, accounting for approximately 27% of all new cancer cases. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reported that an estimated 24,217 new cases were diagnosed in 2022 alone, with approximately 3,507 deaths attributed to the disease. This is 1 in 5 diagnosed by age 85. These statistics underline the urgent need for increased awareness, research, and support for those affected by prostate cancer.
The field of prostate cancer research has witnessed significant advancements in recent years, leading to improved detection methods, treatment options, and survivorship rates. One notable breakthrough is the development of targeted therapies that specifically address the genetic mutations responsible for prostate cancer growth. These advancements have shown promising results in managing advanced-stage prostate cancer and prolonging the lives of patients.
The emergence of precision medicine has revolutionised prostate cancer treatment. By analysing an individual’s unique genetic profile, doctors can now tailor treatment plans that are more effective and have fewer side effects. This personalised approach offers renewed hope to patients and their families, emphasising the importance of continued research to uncover further breakthroughs in prostate cancer management.
Fundraising plays a very important role in supporting research initiatives, educational programs, and comprehensive patient care for prostate cancer. It enables the development of innovative treatments, the establishment of support networks, and the dissemination of vital information to the community.
Lawn Addicts Australia along with Protea Australia are touched by this horrible disease and want to do what we can to contribute to the ongoing support this program needs. To acknowledge and support Prostate Awareness Month in September we are making an all mighty effort to raise as much funding as we can in support for prostate research. We have nominated Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia as our foundation of choice to distribute the revenue raised with our Protea for Prostate Cancer Research initiative.
